Creating social media content is one of the most time-consuming parts of running an online business — and one of the most frustrating when you do not know what to say.
Most people spend more time agonizing over captions than they do actually serving their customers. And when they turn to AI tools for help, they often get output that sounds robotic, generic, or completely off-brand.
In this post, I want to share why that happens, how to fix it, and the exact prompts I use across six different social media platforms to create engaging content in a fraction of the time.
Why AI Social Media Content Feels Generic (And How to Fix It)
The quality of AI-generated content is almost entirely determined by the quality of the prompt you give it.
Most people type something like: "Write an Instagram caption about my business."
That prompt gives the AI almost nothing to work with. It does not know your audience. It does not know your tone. It does not know what goal the caption needs to achieve. So it fills in the blanks with generic assumptions — and produces generic output.
The fix is simple: give the AI more to work with.
A strong AI prompt includes your role or persona, your specific audience, the topic and goal, the tone you want, the format you need, and ideally a word count or character limit.
When you include all of those elements, the output quality improves dramatically — instantly.
The AI Content Prompt System™: A 6-Step Framework
Rather than just handing you prompts, I want to share the system that makes every prompt work at its best.
It is called The AI Content Prompt System™, and it has six steps:
Step 1 — Choose your content goal. Every piece of content should have one clear objective: educate, engage, inspire, promote, or entertain. Pick one before you write a single word.
Step 2 — Select the right prompt template. Match your goal to the correct prompt type. An educational post needs a different prompt structure than a promotional post.
Step 3 — Customise for your niche. Fill in every [bracket] with specifics: your audience, your tone, your product name, your unique angle. Specificity is everything.
Step 4 — Improve the AI response. The first response is a rough draft. Follow up with refinements — shorter, different tone, better hook — until the output is genuinely strong.
Step 5 — Edit for authenticity. Add one personal element the AI cannot know: a story, an opinion, a specific client result. This transforms AI output into your content.
Step 6 — Repurpose across platforms. Ask the AI to adapt the finished piece for every other platform you use. One idea becomes five pieces of content.
Here is a sample prompt for each of the six platforms covered in the full guide:
Instagram: "Act as an Instagram copywriter for a [niche] brand. Write a caption that opens with a 2-sentence personal story my audience of [description] will instantly recognise. Build to one key insight. End with a question. Warm, conversational tone. Max 220 words."
Facebook: "Write a Facebook post for [niche/business] that tells a short, relatable story about [topic]. Make my audience of [description] feel understood. Structure: scene, struggle, resolution, audience question. Under 250 words."
LinkedIn: "Write a LinkedIn post sharing a professional lesson I learned from [experience] in the [industry] space. Structure: what I got wrong, what happened, the lesson, a question for readers. Under 300 words. First-person, honest, no jargon."
X (Twitter): "Write a [number]-tweet educational thread about [topic] for [audience]. Tweet 1: bold hook with a clear promise. Tweets 2 onwards: one insight per tweet, each able to stand alone. Final tweet: key takeaways and follow CTA."
TikTok/Reels: "Write a 45-second script about [topic] for [audience]. Structure: hook (0-3 seconds, bold statement), value (4-38 seconds, 3 clear tips), CTA (39-45 seconds, one clear action). Max 120 spoken words. Include [visual direction] notes."
Pinterest: "Write a Pinterest pin description for a pin about [topic] targeting keywords [keyword 1], [keyword 2], [keyword 3]. First sentence: primary keyword + benefit. 2-3 descriptive value sentences. CTA with link. 100-200 words. No hashtags."
These six prompts are a sample of what's inside the full guide.
